Features of Hardness
ISO 6123/1-1982 standard defining the hardness specifications for elastomer coated parts.
Measuring Conditions
Coating Thickness
The measurement of hardness is standardized
Depending on the thickness:
- Until 50 Shore A: no less than 9mm
- Above 50 Shores A: no less than 6mm
Depending on the temperature :
- Standard laboratory temperature: 23 ±2°C with a regular temperature increase for a valid and comparable result.
Number of measures
To be exact, the hardness of a maximum table piece of 2500 mm, the hardness must be taken in five different places:
- 3 points each separated by 120° around a circumference in the middle of the cylinder
- 1 point at each end and at a distance equal to 10% of the length of the coating from the end.
Temperature
To be exact, the hardness of a maximum table piece of 2500 mm, the temperature must be taken in 9/6 different places:
- 3 points each separated by 120° around a circumference in the middle of the cylinder
- 3 points each separated by 120° around a circumference at each end.
